#JESUS2019 - Daily DevotionalsSample

Jesus is your light. But sometimes it’s easy to start to think that it’s only a cosy light, like a candle or a campfire.
God has just freed the Israelite people from captivity in Egypt and is now travelling with them, towards a beautiful land that he wants to give them. But the journey has only just begun.
They’re not there yet. That is why God reveals himself to them as a pillar of cloud by day, and as a bright pillar of fire at night. To show them the path. A path that is not always straight. A path which is unmarked and often invisible to the naked eye. But this path is illuminated by God’s light — step by step, meter by meter.
The challenge for the people was to get going, to follow the light. It wasn’t a light that simply remained in the same place. The light didn’t remain where they were: it was a light that moved. And every time the Israelites arrived at the place where the light was waiting for them, the light made a short pause for them, and then it went on.
In a similar way, God is on a journey with you. He goes before you, as a light, so that you can see the path and know its direction. And then God waits for you to follow him.
The path is not always the shortest. It is also not always the easiest. But God has a plan. And he knows why he guides you on your route. And he – your light – waits for you to follow him.
ACTION STEP:
In which direction is God moving in your life at the moment? And what does this mean for you as you follow him?
