Heart And Hustle

DAY 21 OF 30

OUTCOMES OF THE HEART

Love

We all want to love like Jesus. We want to be humble, forgiving, generous and compassionate. However, it doesn’t just happen. Our humanity gets in the way.

Jesus was human too and yet also fully God at the same time. He was able to see people in a way that we can’t. 1 John 4:16 says He “is love”. He is love in human form. We, as humans, are not love. We can love, but we stink at it sometimes. We aren’t as easy to forgive. We judge too fast. We are impatient. We hold grudges. Can we really love like Jesus? It seems impossible.

If we study Jesus’s life, we repeatedly notice a pattern in His interactions with people. Jesus was approachable. He welcomed anyone and everyone. He didn’t have exclusive groups. He treated the kings and prostitutes the same way: with unconditional acceptance.

Jesus was graceful. In other words, He was full of grace. He wasn’t judgmental. He was around liars, thieves, drunks and other “sinners” of His day, but they all felt comfortable around Him because they knew He saw them, not their sin.

Lastly, Jesus was selfless. He wasn’t self-absorbed. He was focused on others, ready to meet their needs and heal their hurts. He put others before Himself and practiced humility at all times. Being selfless like Jesus doesn’t mean thinking less of yourself. It means thinking of yourself less.

Goal:

Examine your heart and determine if you are approachable and inclusive, full of grace instead of judgment, and totally selfless. Pray and ask God to show you areas of your love that need to change?
