Friendships

Paul encouraged the believers in Corinth to partner up with him in his ministry to preach the Gospel, but the resistance he faced was with the Christians who still associated with the wicked and the idolaters in the community. Paul was addressing the need for believers to set boundaries with whom they fellowship and do life with. 

Paul wasn’t saying don’t have non-Christian friends, but he was saying don’t develop such a deep bond with them where you adopt their behaviors. 1 John 2:15 tells us to “be in this world, but not of it”. As a Christian, you are called to reach out to this broken world by any means necessary, but you must be careful not to adopt the methods of this world in the process. You must establish boundaries with non-Christians friends. Don’t let intimacy with the world take root in your life. Allow intimacy with Christ take over your life!

Goal: 

Who is in your life that you may need to break some ties with? Ask God for an opportunity to separate from that circle. Ask God to give you the right influences and friends to do life with.
