Finish: Imitating An Imperfect KingSample

Some of the challenges David faced as king were of his own making, but some were the result of choices other people made. At one point, David’s own son Absalom, tried to take his place as king, an ordeal that drove David from his home, forced him to live like a fugitive as he had when pursued by Saul, and broke his very heart.
Even so, David showed great fortitude and endured his son’s betrayal in a way that honored God, showing mercy and grace characteristic of the God he served. In the end, God thwarted the plans of Absalom, a man out for himself and his own purposes, and restored the throne to David, a king who had proven himself to be God’s faithful, submissive servant.

About this Plan

Ever heard of David, the shepherd boy turned king? God’s chosen one? Jesus’ great-great-great-something grandfather on his stepfather Joseph’s side? David’s story is fascinating. He made mistakes—big ones—but he never failed to humble himself, confess his sin, and start fresh, letting God do whatever He wanted to do with and through him. Want to know what it looks like to live for God’s glory? Focus on King David.
