Finish: Imitating An Imperfect King

DAY 3 OF 8

Over time, Saul’s jealousy of David grew, and his rage became more intense, but God surrounded David with people willing to encourage and protect him, people like King Saul’s son Jonathan and King Saul’s daughter Michal, David’s wife, both of whom risked their very lives for David.

David didn’t take these people for granted, but loved them in return, taking good care of the relationships God had put in his life.

Before David became king, God gave David opportunities to prove to himself and to his future followers that he was a different kind of leader than King Saul had been. No one would have blamed David if he had killed Saul when he had the chance—King Saul would certainly have killed him if the tables had been turned—but David didn’t. Instead, he backed off and let God choose who would be king instead of taking the position for himself, giving God room to glorify Himself through David’s actions.

Thank God for the encouragement of your brothers and sisters in Christ and for opportunities to let God glorify Himself through your faith and patience as you go through trials.

About this Plan

Finish: Imitating An Imperfect King

Ever heard of David, the shepherd boy turned king? God’s chosen one? Jesus’ great-great-great-something grandfather on his stepfather Joseph’s side? David’s story is fascinating. He made mistakes—big ones—but he never failed to humble himself, confess his sin, and start fresh, letting God do whatever He wanted to do with and through him. Want to know what it looks like to live for God’s glory? Focus on King David.
