Jesus is Born!
Reading: Luke 2:1-7
Key Verse: “She gave birth ... wrapped him in strips of cloth and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.” v 7-8
Christmas Day is here and we once again celebrate the birth of Jesus! The word Christmas is an abbreviation of the phrase Christ’s Mass meaning Christ’s Celebration (through communion). Although December 25th may not have been the actual day of Jesus birth it is the day which has been chosen historically to remember and celebrate that miraculous event.
The gospels record that when Joseph and Mary arrived in Bethlehem for the Roman census there was nowhere for them to stay. They ended up in a stable where Jesus was wrapped in strips of cloth and placed in a manger which was a feeding trough for animals such as sheep and donkeys.
Imagine that. Jesus, God the Son, left the glory of the Father’s presence and not only humbled Himself by becoming human but was born to a peasant couple in a barn for animals. No fine robes, ornate crib or golden palace for the royal prince of heaven but strips of cloth and a feeding trough. Jesus chose to renounce all His heavenly privileges so He could come and rescue you from the effects of all your earthly disasters!
Prayer: Jesus thank you that you gave up the glories of heaven for me. I celebrate Your birth as flesh and blood here on earth
