DAY 194 OF 366

The Church – An Embassy of Ambassadors

Reading: 2 Cor.5:17-21

Key Verse: “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us – we implore you on Christ’s behalf”. v.20

An embassy is an outpost located in a foreign land that represents and promotes the interests, views practices and attractive features of its homeland. It would also inform its home government of important events in the foreign country and seek instructions how it should respond to them. An embassy is the residence of an ambassador who is the chief representative in the foreign country. Paul uses the word ambassador to describe followers of Jesus who would therefore be the chief representatives of the embassy of the church.

A friend once travelled to the American embassy in London to obtain a visa only to find it closed for the day when everywhere else was open. His confusion was resolved when a guard explained it was Thanksgiving Day which is a public holiday in the USA.  Even though it was located on foreign soil, the embassy adopted the rules of its homeland!

We adopt the principles of heaven on an earth that has rejected God. We love when others hate. We accept those others reject and we forgive when others seek revenge. We represent the person and love of Christ in a world to whom God is foreign and unknown. We are His ambassadors!

Prayer: Lord I pray for opportunities to act as Your ambassador by imploring on Christ’s behalf those who live in a land of darkness to be reconciled to You
