Spirit of prayer 

One of the ways the Holy Spirit comes alongside to help is in the matter of prayer.  He both motivates us to pray and helps us pray according to God’s will. Particularly concerning prayer, Jesus explained that, “there is a part of you that is eager, ready for anything in God. But there’s another part of you that’s as lazy as an old dog sleeping by the fire” (Matt.26:41 Message).

Sometimes we simply do not receive from God because for various reasons we do not ask (Jam.4:2). Then when we do ask God, we can pray with selfish motives (Jam.4:3). The Holy Spirit overcomes both these weaknesses as He inspires us to pray and then how to pray.  This may be in the form of an inner impression or more specifically in the new tongue He has given us. Paul the apostle writes that we should pray with our mind according to our understanding but also in the spiritual gift unknown prayer language according to the wisdom of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor.14:14-16).

We may not understand what we are saying but in this way the Holy Spirit prays and groans through us “according to the will of God” (Rom.8:27).
