God so loved

Whatever people think about God, His own Word explains to us that “God is love” (1 John 4:16). This means that God is motivated by love in His thoughts, His feelings and His actions. It is not a selfish or self serving love but a genuine feeling of affection and compassion for those who are loved. We say that we love our hobby, our choice of music or even chocolate, coffee and ice cream! But God’s love goes deeper than that because it is a sacrificial love which is prepared to endure pain so that the ones who are loved may experience pleasure. 

The two key elements of love are attitude and action. A news item referred to a father who went through a painful operation to donate an organ to his child who would otherwise have died. Our Father in heaven donated His own Son in order that we would not perish but have eternal life. Jesus willingly gave up His life so that we would be rescued from our self destructive behaviours to experience the fullness of the blessed life God originally designed us to enjoy.

The reason for Easter is the fact that we are loved by God!

Prayer: Thank you Lord that You love me and donated Jesus so that I could have eternal life
