Overwhelmed by My Blessings: Encouragement for Moms (Part 8)

NGÀY 3 TRONG 5

Moms. Up early. Scurrying the kids out the door, or to the table to learn something. By late afternoon we are giddy with the anticipation of climbing into bed, but first we have to endure the monster hour of getting kiddos into bed, or taxiing our pre-teens into the night. Exhausting! We grab a few hours of restless sleep, get up tired to face another day.  And then, we do it all over again. Our lives have become a replay of the movie “Groundhog Day” set on repeat. Every day the same thing. Over and over and over again. We are bored and weary, and would like a little excitement in our day. But, the fun kind of excitement. Qualified. Nothing that changes things too drastically. We don’t mean to be whiners and complainers. Lord knows we hear that all day from our kids! But, seriously. Just a little change in our routine might be nice. Sure. Maybe there's an occasional change, a park date, a short visit with a friend, a fun lunch at work. But when we arrive back home, the laundry is still dirty, the meals have to be made, the refrigerator has to be filled. It can get old fast. Take comfort in this thought: God is a God of routine. He makes the world turn just right so that the sun shows itself every morning. And that same sun leaves us each evening. Every night. He brings the seasons in succession. Always the same. Winter, spring, summer, fall. He never mixes it up. It’s always the same. Over and over again.  It’s something we count on. Something we find security in, even if we don’t realize it. His routines remind us that we can anticipate tomorrow!  The mundane of the sunrise and sunset are tokens of His amazing faithfulness. His order. His God-ness. Could it be that our sameness, our routines, are teaching the hearts of our children about our own faithfulness? Could it be affording them the same security we find in the ordinary of a sunrise? May our hearts be stirred and changed into seeing the regular, the mundane, the routine as something greater than our perceptions. May our eyes be opened to the faithfulness being displayed in the routine. And may we never see a sunrise without remembering the faithfulness of our God! Oh, Father. I am so guilty of whining and complaining about the routine of life and seeing it as boring and uneventful rather than seeing that You are working even in this. May my heart be stirred into seeing the regular as spectacular, because You are building faithfulness in me and in my children. May my whining and complaining be turned into joy for the day You have set before me once again! I can do this, because You are always faithful.
