Đức Giê-hô-va tiếp tục gọi Sa-mu-ên lần thứ ba. Cậu trỗi dậy, đến với Hê-li, và thưa: “Có con đây, vì ông đã gọi con.” Khi ấy, Hê-li hiểu rằng Đức Giê-hô-va gọi đứa trẻ. Vì vậy, Hê-li nói với Sa-mu-ên: “Hãy về ngủ đi, và nếu có ai gọi con thì con hãy nói: ‘Lạy Đức Giê-hô-va, xin phán dạy, vì đầy tớ Ngài đang nghe!’” Sa-mu-ên về nằm ngủ lại chỗ mình. Đức Giê-hô-va đến đứng tại đó, gọi như các lần trước: “Hỡi Sa-mu-ên! Sa-mu-ên!” Sa-mu-ên thưa: “Xin Chúa phán, vì đầy tớ Ngài đang nghe!”
