Have you ever wondered what it would have been like to be on the earth during the days of Jesus? Or the stable the night He was born? Sometimes when I’m having my quiet time, I put myself into these scenarios and think about what it would have been like. But I also love thinking about the day when I will see Him face to face, the day that Jesus returns to the earth.
at an alarming rate. There have been many great men and women throughout history who have sought to bring about a better world, but at the end of the day no matter how well we live, there is only One found worthy to rule and reign.
The phrase, “one found worthy,” is found in Revelation 5 with John in heaven gazing on the Father seated on His throne with a scroll in His right hand. An angel then poses this question, “Who is worthy to take this scroll and open up its seals?” In other words, whoever is found worthy to open the scroll is the only one who can be trusted to take authority over the earth by carrying out that which is written on the scroll.
The search begins both in heaven and on the earth and even under the earth, but no one is found worthy. John is painfully aware of the great need in the earth for a righteous king, someone to bring forth justice. He begins to weep bitterly because no one is found worthy, but thankfully the story does not end here. John hears another voice in heaven saying, “Do not weep, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed. And He is worthy to open the scroll.”
A few verses later in Revelation 5:12, the angels, living creatures, and elders around the throne declare that Jesus is worthy to receive power, and riches,
and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing.
As we consider all that Jesus is worthy of and why, may our hearts fall in love with this Man still more and more during this holiday season.
