Finding Joy

DAY 2 OF 3

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is an important part of our walk with God. In fact, I consider Thanksgiving a gift. No matter how dark a situation may seem, thanksgiving lifts our eyes from our circumstances and places them back on God.

Philippians 4:8 says:

"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." (ESV)

This Scripture is a powerful weapon. It helps us fight dark thoughts and keeps our minds focused on God and His goodness.

Sometimes God is the only light you can see in your life, and that is enough reason to hope for a brighter day. Sometimes thanksgiving is an act of faith. You give thanks not because of your circumstances, but because of who God is.

When Jesus fed the five thousand, He did not focus on the little that was available. Instead, He gave thanks and looked to the Father's ability to provide. What seemed insufficient became more than enough in God's hands.

Thanksgiving reminds us that God is greater than our limitations, our fears, and our circumstances.

Reflection

  • What is one thing I can be thankful for today?
  • How can I develop a habit of thanksgiving?
  • Am I focusing more on my problems or on God's faithfulness?

Testimony

As I shared previously, there was a season in my life when I experienced deep mental darkness. God delivered me from that season, and one of the most important lessons He taught me was the power of thanksgiving.

I began to see God's ability to transform what seemed hopeless. Scripture says that He gives beauty for ashes, and I witnessed that truth in my own life. Instead of focusing on everything that was wrong, I began thanking God for who He is and for the gift of salvation. I thanked Him that I could know Him personally and have a relationship with Him.

I chose to look to the One who restores broken lives and lifts up those who have fallen. Even when my life seemed over, I trusted the One who gives life. As I fixed my eyes on Him, hope began to grow, and He slowly turned my ashes into beauty.

Prayer

Dear Father, in Jesus' name,

Thank You for the gift of salvation. Thank You for saving my life and making a way for me to know You. Thank You because You make beauty from ashes and create a way where there seems to be no way.

Thank You that the good work You have begun in me, You will bring to completion. Help me develop a heart of thanksgiving in every season and keep my eyes fixed on You rather than on my circumstances.

I trust You because You are a good Father, faithful in all Your ways.

In Jesus' name I pray,

Amen.
