OPEN HANDSSample

When the Grip Comes Back
On Sinking, and the Outstretched Hand
You had it. The open hands, the surrender, the peace.
And then something, maybe not even a big thing, just a comment, a date, a notification, and the hand closed again.
Welcome to Day Five. This one is for that kind of morning.
Peter was walking on water. Genuinely, feet on the surface, the impossible happening. And then he looked at the wind. Not the waves. The wind. The thing that wasn't even visible, only felt.
That's what the grip-coming-back feels like. The whisper that says: this isn't sustainable, you were foolish to step out, you're going to fall.
But here's what this passage won't let you miss: Jesus immediately reached out His hand. Not after a lecture. Not after Peter demonstrated sufficient repentance or pulled himself together. Immediately. The hand was there before Peter finished sinking.
Jesus did not wait for Peter to be impressive before He caught him.
I've cried out 'Lord, save me' more times than I can count on some particular things. Sometimes multiple times on one Tuesday.
For a long time, I thought that meant it wasn't working. Now I understand that each time is a catch. Each time is grace.
The open hand is not a static achievement you maintain. It's a posture you return to.
Every time you notice the grip and open your hand again, that is the practice. That is the faith. Not the water. The returning.
Reflection: The next time the grip comes back today, just say three words out loud: 'Lord, save me.' Then open your hands physically. How many times did God catch you today?
Closing Prayer: Lord, I am in the water today. The wind spoke and I looked at it. I'm not going to explain how it happened or apologize for how many times the hand has closed again this week. I'm just saying what Peter said: save me. Reach out Your hand right now, before I've sorted myself out. Catch me in the middle of the sinking. And then, when You do, let me look at Your face instead of the wind for just a little longer than I did last time. Amen.
About this Plan

You’ve already asked the right question. Not, “How do I stop wanting this?”, because you don’t stop wanting what God placed within you. The real question is: How do I hold a deep desire without being controlled by it? How do I carry a longing without letting it close my hand to everything else? These seven days won’t answer that in theory. They will guide you through it in practice, sometimes with your actual hands, because releasing a timeline is not just a spiritual act. It is physical. It settles in the body before it settles in the soul.
