OPEN HANDS

DAY 2 OF 7

The Three-Day Walk
The Release is a Journey, Not a Moment

You released the timeline yesterday. Genuinely, with tears, with open hands.

And this morning the grip was back.

That's not failure. That is the three-day walk, and understanding the difference might be the most freeing thing in this whole devotional.

Abraham didn't surrender Isaac in a moment. He got up early, loaded the wood, and walked for three days, with the person he loved most walking right beside him, toward the altar where he would give him up.

No second confirmation came. No angel appeared on the road to reassure him. He simply put one foot in front of the other.

And when Isaac asked where the lamb was, Abraham answered before he could see the ram: 'God will provide for Himself the lamb.' He declared it while still walking toward the altar.

That is what this walk asks of us. Not certainty. Not the absence of grief. Just: don't turn back. And when the fear rises, say what Abraham said, before the evidence shows up.

I've done the Wednesday surrender and the Thursday re-grip so many times I lost count. I used to think repeating the release meant the first one didn't take.

It did take. I was just on a three-day walk.

The ram was already in the thicket before Abraham raised the knife. The provision was in place before the final act of surrender, just on the other side of the altar.

You can't see it yet. But it's already there. Keep walking.

Reflection: What does your version of 'God will provide' sound like, the sentence you need to say on the hard days before you can see the evidence? Write it. Say it out loud today.

Closing Prayer: God, I understand today that this release is going to be a walk, not a moment. Give me the grace of Abraham's walk, not certainty of outcome, but faithfulness of footsteps. Let me say, on every hard day, 'God will provide for Himself the lamb' before I can feel it. And when I find the ram in the thicket, let me recognise it as the thing You were preparing while I was still walking. Amen.

About this Plan

OPEN HANDS

You’ve already asked the right question. Not, “How do I stop wanting this?”, because you don’t stop wanting what God placed within you. The real question is: How do I hold a deep desire without being controlled by it? How do I carry a longing without letting it close my hand to everything else? These seven days won’t answer that in theory. They will guide you through it in practice, sometimes with your actual hands, because releasing a timeline is not just a spiritual act. It is physical. It settles in the body before it settles in the soul.
