Why Easter?Sample

Receiving, Not Earning
Picture God’s hand fully extended toward you—strong, steady, nail-scarred. He’s done everything necessary for you to be reconciled to him. Jesus lived the perfect life you haven’t lived, died the death you deserved, and rose again to offer you new life. The work is finished.
Many of us still live as if God is holding out on us and we have to reach up and grab him through our own effort: “If I go to church more, clean up my act, read my Bible, quit this sin…then maybe God will accept me.” That’s not Christianity; that’s religion.
The gospel is different. Salvation is “by grace”—undeserved kindness—“through faith,” simple trust. It is “not from yourselves… not from works.” You don’t climb up to God; God comes down to you in Christ. You don’t earn a gift; you receive it with empty hands.
Faith is not impressive spirituality. It’s honest surrender: “God, I can’t save myself. I believe Jesus did for me what I could never do. I hand you my old life—my sin, my control, my attempts to prove myself—and I receive your forgiveness and new life.”
Easter is a present invitation. Not to sprinkle a little religion on top of your plans, but to hand over your life and be made new.
Reflection Questions:
1. In what ways have you been trying to “earn” God’s approval—through performance, morality, or spiritual activity?
2. What would it look like for you to stop striving and simply receive what Jesus has already finished for you?
Prayer:
Father, I confess that I often try to save myself—by being good enough, strong enough, or spiritual enough. Today I lay down my efforts. I receive your gift of grace through Jesus’ death and resurrection. I give you my old life and ask for the new life you promise. Teach me to live as someone loved, forgiven, and free. Amen.

About this Plan

For many, Easter feels like a strange holiday. There are eggs, bunnies, pastels, and candy—but what is it actually about? Underneath the cultural layers, Easter centers on a bold claim: that Jesus of Nazareth literally rose from the dead.
