Why Easter?

DAY 1 OF 4

A Real Event in Real History

We don’t build our lives on inspirational quotes or vague spirituality; we build them on something that happened. The earliest Christian confession is simple and stunning: Jesus died, was buried, and then was raised—“according to the Scriptures”—and seen by real people in real places.

The New Testament never treats the resurrection as a myth or metaphor. It anchors it in verifiable history: specific names (Cephas/Peter, James, the apostles), specific numbers (over 500 witnesses), and the bold claim that many of those witnesses were still alive when 1 Corinthians was written. In other words: “Go ask them.”

If Jesus is still in a tomb somewhere, Christianity collapses. Paul himself says if Christ has not been raised, our faith is useless (1 Corinthians 15:14). But if he really did walk out of that grave, then his words carry ultimate authority, his cross truly paid for sin, and his life can actually transform ours.

The resurrection means God has already acted decisively in history. Our faith rests not on how we feel today, but on what God has done.

Reflection Questions:

1. In your honest moments, do you treat the resurrection more like a symbol or a real event? Why?

2. How does it change things to know that your faith is rooted in what God has *already* done, not in what you can achieve?

Prayer:

Jesus, I confess that I often reduce you to a distant idea or a moral teacher. Thank you that you are a real Savior who really died, was really buried, and truly rose again. Ground my faith in your historical, unshakable work, not in my shifting emotions. Strengthen my confidence that you are alive today. Amen.

About this Plan

Why Easter?

For many, Easter feels like a strange holiday. There are eggs, bunnies, pastels, and candy—but what is it actually about? Underneath the cultural layers, Easter centers on a bold claim: that Jesus of Nazareth literally rose from the dead.
