Relational Proximity to the Blessed One
Genesis 30 ends by affirming that Jacob “increased greatly.” Despite jealousy, scheming, bargaining with mandrakes, and spiritual counterfeits, the family is still called blessed. How?
Not because they obeyed perfectly, but because they were **relationally connected to the blessed line**—the family through whom God had promised to pour out His blessing.
That same pattern reaches its climax in Jesus. He is the true “Blessed One,” the fullness of God’s presence and favor in human form. Blessing now flows, not through your flawless obedience, but through your **union with Him**.
When you place your faith in Christ, you are brought into God’s family. You move from spiritual orphan to beloved son or daughter. You are seated at the King’s table, not because you climbed your way there, but because the King came out, found you, and invited you in.
This changes everything:
- You don’t need to compare—you are already honored by the King.
- You don’t need to scheme—you can trust His wisdom and timing.
- You don’t need to earn—you are fully loved in Christ.
- You don’t need endless impulses—you can be satisfied in God.
- You don’t need other spirits—the Holy Spirit dwells in you.
- You don’t need to cheat—your inheritance in Christ is secure.
True blessing is **intimacy with the King**, not just the gifts of the kingdom. The more closely you walk with Jesus, the more you taste the deep, sturdy joy of being truly blessed.
Reflection Questions:
1. In your own words, what does it mean that blessing flows from “relational proximity” to Jesus?
2. Which old pattern (comparison, scheming, earning, impulses, other spirits, cheating) do you most need to turn from today?
3. What is one concrete step you can take this week to grow closer to Jesus (prayer, Scripture, community, confession, etc.)?
Prayer:
Jesus, You are the Blessed One, full of grace and truth. Thank You for inviting me into Your family and sharing Your blessings with me. I turn from the empty ways I’ve chased blessing apart from You. Draw me closer to Your heart. Let my deepest joy be found, not in what I have, but in being with You. Amen.

About this Plan

For many of us, it’s the MTV Cribs version: big houses, nice cars, a loaded bank account, everything looking smooth and successful from the outside. But Scripture paints a radically different picture of blessing.
