Divine Blessing

DAY 1 OF 4

Rethinking “Blessed”

When you think “blessed,” what comes to mind?

For many of us, it’s success, comfort, and ease—something like a highlight reel of our life. But Scripture gives us a very different starting point: blessing is not primarily about what we have, but *who* we have.

In Genesis, God chooses Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to be a “blessed” family. Yet when you look closely, their stories are anything but tidy. There is deception, jealousy, barrenness, family drama, and deep pain. If you and I were to glance at their lives from the outside, we might not label them as “blessed.”

And yet, they are.

Why? Because blessing in the Bible is **happiness experienced from being treated favorably by God**. It’s rooted in God’s covenant love, not in perfect circumstances. Their lives are messy, but God’s favor is real. He is with them, for them, and working through them—even in the middle of their brokenness.

This means you don’t have to wait for a certain salary, a relationship status, a clean bill of health, or a picture-perfect family to be “blessed.” If your help and your hope are in the Lord, you are already walking in the realm of blessing, even if life feels chaotic.

True blessing is less about your situation and more about your **Source**.

Reflection Questions:

1. When you say “I’m blessed,” what are you usually referring to?

2. How does Psalm 146:5 challenge or reshape your idea of blessing?

3. Where in your current real life might God already be present and favoring you?

Prayer:

Lord, I confess that I often measure blessing by comfort, success, or comparison with others. Help me to see blessing the way You do. Open my eyes to Your favor in my life, even in the messy places. Teach me to anchor my help and my hope in You alone. Amen.

About this Plan

Divine Blessing

For many of us, it’s the MTV Cribs version: big houses, nice cars, a loaded bank account, everything looking smooth and successful from the outside. But Scripture paints a radically different picture of blessing.
