Grace: An Easter DevotionalSample

FORGIVENESS & FREEDOM
Easter does not end with forgiveness received—it continues in lives transformed. The grace we receive is meant to reshape how we live and how we relate to others.
Because we are forgiven, we are called to forgive. Scripture places a strong emphasis on this, even prioritizing reconciliation over acts of worship. Whether you have wronged someone or someone has wronged you, restoring that relationship matters deeply to God (cf. Matthew 5:23–24; 1 Peter 3:7).
Unforgiveness holds onto bitterness and affects our relationship with Him. But forgiveness sets us free; it restores our relationships and reflects the grace we have received from Christ. It opens the door for healing and allows us to walk rightly with God.
Peter's own story demonstrates the depth of this forgiveness. He was given three chances to declare his devotion to his Master, but after denying Jesus three times, he regretted it and wept bitterly. Despite this, he was still given three opportunities to affirm his love for his Master. The affirmation was genuine, albeit imperfect, and Jesus still accepted it. This demonstrates that a sincere heart oriented toward Jesus is the foundation of restoration rather than perfection.
Forgiveness is not just a theory; it is real, and it transforms. It restores what was broken, frees us from what binds us, and invites us into a life marked by grace.
Reflection Questions
- Who do you need to forgive or reconcile with today? (Matthew 5:23–24)
- How does Peter’s honest but imperfect response encourage you in your relationship with Jesus?
