DAY 5 OF 5

Day 5: Being a Leader in the Midst of Lostness, Pain, and Brokenness

Key verse:

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed.-Luke 4:18

A thought that we have a lot of the times when we hear the question “what can I give” is, do I even HAVE something to give to this world? Another question we then ask ourselves is “who am I to bring something to this world?” But as we have said in the previous days, you are part of the body of Christ, you have a contribution to build the Kingdom of God. God has called you for a time such as this. Esther was a young girl, that because she KNEW God called her for a purpose could save a nation. She became a leader, someone who took action when everyone else was scared.

Just like Esther, we all have been called for a time such as this. God has created us to be in the image and likeness of God, which means, just as Jesus was a leader, a person who walked with a purpose, and took people with Him to help and make a huge difference in the world.

We feel safe in situations we feel we are in control, around people we are comfortable with, in environments we have been in before, and times to be in these situations is important, but we cannot live in this reality constantly. We need to go OUT and represent the body of Christ where there is brokenness, where there is loneliness and where people are most lost. Jesus went to sit with the tax collectors, the social outcasts, basically all the people we would usually avoid in nowadays.

To do SOMETHING, we need to start SOMEWHERE, and that first step we are called to do is to step out of our comfort zone, and to start contributing to the people and places that need God the most. To start stepping out of our comfort zone and contributing to the world in a meaningful way, using the gifts and talents God has woven into us. To be leaders that takes people with us on a journey to discover Jesus Christ our King.

Reflection/Activation:

Do I truly believe that I have something God-given to contribute to the world — or am I still doubting my place in the Body of Christ?
Where am I currently choosing comfort over calling?
What is one practical step I can take this week to move toward brokenness, loneliness, or need — instead of away from it?

Prayer:

Father, thank you that you have called us to be vessels in your Kingdom in a time such as this. Thank you Father that you have chosen us to be part of your Body on this earth. Jesus, I pray that in this next couple of weeks and days, we will become aware of the places and people you call us to move into and to bring Your light and Life into places full of pain, brokenness and people who are lost. Amen.
