Snapshots: Wake Up

DAY 2 OF 5

Don’t Overthink It

While visiting my parents in Texas, I borrowed their car to run a few errands. I needed to get some things done, but I was also curious to try out their new car. From the moment I sat inside, I was impressed. The seats were comfortable, the sound system was great, and there seemed to be a button for everything.

After finishing my errands, I decided to stop and put gas in the car. But when I pulled up to the gas station, I could not figure out how to open the gas tank door. I looked everywhere. Under the seat, on the console, in the glove box. There was no button and no keyhole. I even tried calling my dad, but he did not answer.

Just as I was about to give up, a simple thought crossed my mind. What if there is no button? What if you just push it?

So I did. And it opened.

That moment made me laugh, but it also reminded me how often we complicate what God has already made clear. Sometimes we search for more signs, more confirmation, or more clarity when God has already spoken.

Proverbs 3:5 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” Faith does not require us to understand everything. It requires us to trust the One who does.

Many times, the next step God asks us to take is simple. We just have to stop overthinking and start obeying.

Pause: Is there something you know God has already asked you to do, but you have been overthinking?

Plan: Take the next simple step. Stop waiting for another sign and just push. Send the message, start the habit, say yes.

Pray: God, help me trust You and obey without hesitation. I am ready to take the next step.

About this Plan

Snapshots: Wake Up

Sometimes we move through life on autopilot, missing the ways God is trying to get our attention. This plan comes from my book Snapshots, where each devotion begins with a photo and a lesson God taught me through that image. Through Scripture, reflection, and simple challenges, this plan will help you slow down and wake up spiritually. As you begin to notice God in everyday moments, you may discover that He has been speaking more than you realized.
