Snapshots: Wake UpSample

Stop Standing Still
When my family lived on the 8th floor of an apartment building in Miami, taking the elevator became part of our daily routine. The big question was always, “Who gets to push the button?” My kids loved pressing it.
But sometimes when I rode the elevator alone, I would step in and just stand there scrolling on my phone, completely forgetting to press a floor. I was inside the elevator, but not going anywhere.
That moment reminded me of how faith can look sometimes. We say yes to Jesus, but then we stop moving. We are in, but we are stuck.
Salvation is the beginning, not the end. Spiritual growth does not happen automatically. It takes intention. Growth happens when we choose to open God’s Word, spend time in prayer, serve others, and stay connected to community even when we do not feel like it.
James 4:8 reminds us, “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” God is ready to meet you, but the step is yours.
If you feel stuck spiritually, maybe it is time to stop standing still. Push the button. Take the step. God has more in store for you.
Pause: What is one area in your faith where you have been standing still?
Plan: Choose a next step. Read Scripture daily, set a prayer reminder, join a group, or serve. Just start.
Pray: God, help me stop waiting and start growing. I am ready to take the next step with You.

About this Plan

Sometimes we move through life on autopilot, missing the ways God is trying to get our attention. This plan comes from my book Snapshots, where each devotion begins with a photo and a lesson God taught me through that image. Through Scripture, reflection, and simple challenges, this plan will help you slow down and wake up spiritually. As you begin to notice God in everyday moments, you may discover that He has been speaking more than you realized.
