She Reads Truth - Daniel

DAY 5 OF 18

No One is Able to Rescue This Way

My baby sister was born early on a Sunday morning. I was ten years old. I'd spent the night before at my grandparents' house, and just as soon as church was over, I traveled with my aunt and uncle and cousins to the hospital to meet her. We stopped on the way for lunch at Pizza Hut and just as we were getting situated back in the van after our meal, Uncle Mark spotted me in his rear view mirror - scared, not breathing, turning a little bit blue. I was choking on a mint and it was apparent that I was not going to be able to work this one out on my own.

The next thing I knew I was standing in the parking lot, down 2 slices of pizza and one after dinner mint. But, I was breathing! He rescued me!

I bet you have a story of rescue from your childhood as well - either your own or someone you know. Had you been drowning? Did you walk out in front of a car and someone pulled you back just in the nick of time? Maybe an allergic reaction was caught without a moment to spare. Whatever it was, I imagine we could trade stories of great peril and dramatic rescues all day and night.

As it goes in those great tales of plight and rescue, there's always that one story that tops them all - the one which finds the teller in the direst of straits and in which the hero (or heroine!) somehow manages to do what everyone thought was impossible. It's the trump card - the climax of the conversation - that was a good story!

I feel like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego got a few of those storytelling glory moments after what happened to them in the fiery furnace. “And when it was all over, there wasn't even a scent of smoke on our clothes!"

But I'm also here to tell you, Sisters - you and those fellas? You have a Rescuer in common! And, believe it or not, a remarkably similar story to tell! In Isaiah 43:2, God promises Israel (you!), “when you walk through the fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you."

You may not have been saved from a physical fire, but The One who stood in the furnace with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego stood trial in your place to save you from a fire stronger than Nebuchadnezzar's. And He stands with you today in whatever fire burns around you.

About this Plan

She Reads Truth - Daniel

Maybe we’ve heard about Daniel and the lion’s den - but who was he really? Daniel was an exile from Judah in a foreign land (Babylon) with many eyes on him, watching which moves He would make and how those choices would define him. Let’s dig into Daniel together and let the Lord make Himself more known to us. Let’s read about the One who made Daniel’s story matter and who is still speaking truth to us through His words today.
