Kong Hee: The Bond Of UnitySample

Kong Hee: The Bond Of Unity

DAY 5 OF 5

Your Family In Christ A family functions on the basis of relationship. Members of a family do not love one another because that is a part of their job description, but because their relationship to one another is defined by love. The Church is also a family, and like any other family it is based on loving relationships. First Timothy 5:1-2 says “Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father. Treat younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters …” Treating other Christians like family means loving them sacrificially; true love is always sacrificial. Jesus Christ demonstrated perfect love by giving Himself on the cross in order to rescue you from sin. Christ’s sacrifice is the perfect example of how you are to love other Christians in the family of God. Sometimes Christians treat each other like colleagues in the workplace, but colleagues don’t love one another sacrificially. Colleagues aren’t bound by loving relationships. They are only united by rules. In contrast, you are bound to your Christian brothers and sisters by the most powerful love in the world: the love of Christ. Prayer for the day: Today, ask God to teach you to treat other Christians like members of your family. Pray that you will follow the example of Christ and love your spiritual family sacrificially.
