Kong Hee: The Bond Of UnitySample

Kong Hee: The Bond Of Unity

DAY 3 OF 5

Your Attitude In An Argument There are some things that can be right or wrong depending on the attitude of your heart. Arguing is like this. Scripture is full of good arguments. Jesus argued with the Pharisees in the Gospels. Paul argued with the Greeks in Athens. In both cases, Jesus and Paul were arguing out of love for others and love for the truth. They did not want to win an argument. They only wanted people to know the truth of God’s love. Unfortunately, most Christians do not argue with such pure hearts. Take time to reflect on the attitude of your own heart during arguments. What are you typically thinking during an argument? More often than not you will find that you are not concerned with helping someone else, but in defeating someone else. These types of arguments are not motivated by love and truth, but by a person’s own pride and selfishness. Second Timothy 2:33 says, “Avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife.” People always create disunity when they argue to prove someone wrong. You are called to be an agent of unification within the body of Christ, so be mindful of the attitude of your heart. Commit first to love others in the grace of Christ. Then, if it is necessary to argue with someone in order to stand for the truth, your argument will be clothed in God’s love. Prayer for the day: Today, ask God to forgive you for times you have argued with a sinful attitude. Pray that God will give you a heart committed to loving others and to guiding them into the truth.
