Picture this: A prophet angrily raises his fist to the skies with tears streaked down his cheeks. He laments while his eyes gaze upon his beautiful city that will soon lie in ruin. He saw smoke fill the air; fire burn and heard the shrieks of women and children layer the scene with terror. The enemy swooped in like a locust swarm, leaving nothing standing in its wake. The cause is undeniable: injustice. He weeps bitterly as he recalls the cries of those who came before him, warning the peoples to turn away from their lawless deeds lest they be overtaken by their surrounding enemies. The vision snaps to a stop and he drops to his knees, muttering with grief, “O Lord, how long shall I cry, and You will not hear? Even cry out to You, “Violence!” And You will not save. Why do You show me iniquity, and cause me to see trouble? For plundering and violence are before me; there is strife, and contention arises. Therefore the law is powerless, and justice never goes forth. For the wicked surround the righteous; therefore perverse judgment proceeds.” A heavy silence follows and then a whisper from behind his ears utter the saying, “Look among the nations and watch— Be utterly astounded! For I will work a work in your days which you would not believe, though it were told you.”
