Safe and Secure in Christ - 1Sample

Why We Needed Saving
“When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners.” — Romans 5:6 (NLT)
No one likes to be told they need help — especially young people. We often want to “fix ourselves,” prove we are strong, or show that we can handle life on our own. But when it comes to salvation, the Bible tells us something we must humbly accept: we were helpless and hopeless without Christ.
We didn’t just do a few bad things — we were spiritually dead and separated from God. Our nature was sinful, our hearts could not obey God, and we had no power to change ourselves. Romans 8:7 (NLT) says, “The sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will.” In other words, even when we tried to do good, we still couldn’t meet God’s perfect standard.
Think about a phone with a dead battery. It doesn’t matter how many apps it has or how expensive it is — if the battery is dead, it can’t function. That was us spiritually. We were created to be connected to God, but sin disconnected us and we had no ability to recharge ourselves.
Some believe they will make heaven because they are “not as bad as others.” But God did not compare us to people, He compared us to His perfect holy standard, and we all fell short.
Here’s the good news: God didn’t wait for us to “get better.” He didn’t say, “Change first, then I will save you.” No — He came when we were at our worst. Romans 5:8 (NLT) says, “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”
Jesus didn’t die for “good people.” He died for the broken, the lost, the confused, the sinful — people like us.
Understanding how helpless we were makes us value salvation more. We didn’t need a motivational speech, a second chance, or self-improvement. We needed a Savior. And Jesus became exactly that for us.
So when the enemy whispers, “You are not good enough for God,” remind him: I never was — that’s why Jesus saved me.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for loving me even when I was lost and helpless. Thank You for not waiting for me to change before saving me. Help me never forget how much I needed You, and teach me to rely on Your strength, not my own. Amen.
