Back to the Basics 365

DAY 253 OF 365

Where did the first church begin?

Acts 2:47 says, “...And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.” This occurred in Jerusalem, right after the Day of Pentecost. The first church was not hidden. It was a public gathering of believers who met together in one city and declared their faithfulness to God.

That beginning reminds us that the church is not an accident. God designed it and established it through the work of Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit. The process of establishing churches began in Jerusalem and spread worldwide.

This truth reveals that the church has always been intended to be seen. It is a testimony to the community around it, declaring that Jesus saves and still changes lives. Think of church as a spiritual magnet designed to draw non-believers to Jesus Christ.

Stay faithful to your church. Just as God worked in Jerusalem, He continues to work through local churches today to reach the lost and build up His people.
