Why does the church gather in person?
In 1 Corinthians 14:23, Paul refers to “...the whole church come together into one place...” Colossians 4:15 speaks of “...the church which is in his house.” These verses remind us that believers in the early church met in person. They gathered in homes and in larger settings to worship God and encourage one another.
Jesus will indeed be present in spirit, wherever two or more are gathered in His name. But it is also true that the church is a physical place where people gather to pray, sing, and hear the Word of God. Physical gatherings enable believers to form genuine relationships and deepen their unity.
This truth reminds us that God’s plan for the church is fellowship in person. We cannot replace the strength and accountability that come from gathering with other believers.
Continue to be faithful in meeting together. We need the fellowship, encouragement, and shared worship that come when God’s people assemble as one body.
