Back to the Basics 365

DAY 248 OF 365

Who deserves first place in the church?

Colossians 1:18 says that “...in all things he might have the preeminence.” This means Jesus must always come first. Not a pastor, not a program, not our wants or desires. Christ alone is to be lifted up.

Think about how a compass works. It keeps you from getting lost. In the same way, the church must always point to Christ. When He is at the center, everything else finds its proper place. When He is not the center of our faith, we lose our way.

Churches can get distracted by traditions, rituals, opinions, or even personalities. But the Bible reminds us that only Jesus is worthy of preeminence.

Ask yourself these questions: “Is Christ first in my worship? Is He first in my service? Is He first in my heart?” When He is first, the church will grow in strength and purpose.
