Who is the foundation of the church?
Matthew 16:18 says, “...Upon this rock I will build my church...” 1 Corinthians 3:11 tells us there is no other foundation than Christ.
Jesus Christ is the cornerstone. A cornerstone is the first stone set in place when constructing a building. It’s a foundation that determines whether a structure is sound. It holds everything else together. In that same way, Christ is the foundation of our faith. Without Him, there is no church.
Here, we learn that the local church does not stand on man’s wisdom or tradition. It rests entirely on the work of Jesus Christ.
This means we must always keep Christ at the center of our worship, teaching, and service. When He is our cornerstone, the church remains strong and unshaken. Remember, “who” comes before “what”.
