Disciples of Jesus Christ, as they mature in the faith, should be less and less comfortable being around the things of this world. We, of course, are in the world, but we are not to be of the world.

The Bible tells us that our conversation should be pleasing to God. This does include our verbal communication, but the word “conversation” as defined here means the way we conduct our lives. Does our life reflect Christ and please the Lord? We should be distinct as God’s children, and there should be a clear difference in the way we live so that we are a light in this world.

2 Corinthians 6:17 says, “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you”. Disciples of Jesus understand that in order to be a light in this world, our lives and the way we live need to reflect Christ. Our good works do not save us, but our lives, by doing good works, end up being a powerful testimony and witness for Christ.
