Sometimes in our lives, it seems like there are temptations at every turn we take. We have a great God who does not leave us to fight them on our own. The disciples of Jesus Christ should remember that God has given them several tools to overcome temptation.
The first and foremost tool is the Word of God. When we are in moments of temptation, His Word can give us the power to see victory. Jesus gave us the perfect example of how to handle temptation during His encounter in the wilderness. Every time He was tempted, He quoted Scripture to fight against it. Also consider Psalm 119:11, where the Bible says, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” God’s Word can give you victory over sin! That is why it is important to have God’s Word in our hearts.
A great way to have God’s Word with you at all times is to memorize passages of Scripture. Don’t just memorize any verse; get specific about what area of sin you are most tempted by and memorize passages on that topic.
