DAY 18 OF 30

Cultivating The Giving Grace V

Every form of mastery is built on the principle of consistent practice. You have heard it said that practice makes perfect. This doesn’t only apply to natural skills or talents; it also applies to gaining mastery in the outworkings of God’s grace in your life.

If you want to excel in the things of the Spirit, you don’t commit them to mere “leading” or “feeling.” Of course, you must learn to yield to the leading of the Spirit, but spiritual growth does not happen through things you do only when you feel led. This is why many people are not growing in the grace God has given them. You must build a regimen around any area of your life in which you desire to see growth.

You can’t grow in the spirit of grace and supplication if you pray only when you feel led. You can’t increase in the knowledge of God if you read your Bible only when the occasion demands it. (Sadly, many Christians open their Bibles only in church.) You can’t excel in soul winning if you win souls only when you are led or mobilized to do so. In the same way, you can’t excel in the giving grace if you give only when you are led or when there is a sense of necessity.

The truth is that those who wait for leading hardly ever get led. You should be intentional about building structures that foster the growth you desire to see in your life. As you have a prayer plan and a Bible study plan, also have a giving plan and giving targets that prioritize your tithe, your worship offerings, your honour seeds to your pastor and your parents, and your giving to the less privileged. This will help you track your growth. Once there is a plan, stick with it by all means. You may find an accountability partner who is also a giver to provoke you unto good works (Hebrews 10:24). As you practice consistent giving, the grace will be amplified.

Sound Code:

Father, I discipline myself to grow in the giving grace. I build structures that sustain generosity in my life. As I give consistently, grace multiplies and overflows through me. Amen.
