Denim Wear Sunday: Choose Simplicity

A church once announced a “Denim Sunday,” inviting every member to come dressed in simple attire to emphasize humility, unity, and authenticity in worship. The goal was not to reject beauty or celebration, but to remind believers that true worship begins in the heart, not in appearance. In a world often driven by fashion, comfort, and comparison, this act became a small but powerful symbol of what Christmas truly means.

Jesus’ birth in a manger is the clearest picture of divine simplicity. The King of Glory, who created all things, chose to enter the world through a poor family, wrapped in cloth, and laid in a feeding trough. There was no luxury, no comfort, no applause—only the quiet presence of shepherds and the heavenly light of angels. The message is unmistakable: God values humility over grandeur, and obedience over outward beauty.

Modern celebrations of Christmas often obscure this truth. Glitter and gifts easily replace gratitude and grace. Yet, the story of Bethlehem calls us back to simplicity—a life centered on Christ rather than consumerism. When we choose humility, we reflect the heart of Jesus who “emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant” (Philippians 2:7).

True joy is not found in what we wear or own, but in who we worship.
