The Scepter of Judah

God promised a Saviour to the first human couple in the Garden of Eden that the Messiah would come as the seed of woman (Genesis 3:15). The promise continued through the generations—narrowed to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and finally Judah. Jacob, before his death, blessed Judah and prophesied that “the scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs” (Genesis 49:10). The scepter was a symbol of kingship, authority, and rule. Centuries later, this prophecy found its glorious fulfillment in the birth of Jesus Christ, born in Bethlehem—the tribe and lineage of Judah (Matthew 2:1–6).

The Lord chose a humble tribe and an ordinary family through whom the King of kings would come. Though earthly rulers rise and fall, the eternal kingdom of Christ endures forever. His rule is righteous, His reign is peace, and His authority brings hope to all nations. From the manger to the cross, the sovereignty of God’s plan is evident.

The promises given to the patriarchs were not forgotten; in Christ they were completed. The birth of Jesus reminds us that God is faithful to every word He has spoken. In a world of broken promises and fading powers, the reign of the Lion of Judah stands unshaken.
