Day 25: The Word Became Flesh
Reflection:
“In the beginning was the Word…” (John 1:1). The story of Advent begins not in Bethlehem, but before time itself. Christ is the eternal word, the alpha and the omega, the one through whom all things were made. Yet the mystery of Christmas is that this eternal word “became flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:14). The infinite stepped into the finite. The Creator entered His creation, shining light into darkness—and the darkness could not overcome it.
Advent does not stop with Christmas. It is a season of preparation, of cultivating desire, of learning to long and to wait. We remember Christ's coming in humility, but we also anticipate His coming in glory. The child in the manger is the King who will return to judge and to renew all things. From first to last, He is the Beginning and the End, the One who came, who comes to us even now, and who will come again.
Advent forms us into a waiting people—who do not numb ourselves with distractions but sharpen our longing for Christ. The manger teaches us to marvel at God’s humility; the promise of His return teaches us to hope in His victory.
Meditation:
As this Advent journey closes, the question is not whether Christ has come—He has! The question is: Do we live as those who are longing for His return? The word became flesh so that we might see His glory. How will you bear witness to the light in the year ahead, until that day when the light of the world returns in fullness?
Prayer:
Eternal word, alpha and omega... We praise You as the One who was, who is, and who is to come. Thank You for becoming flesh and dwelling among us. Deepen our hunger for You, and keep us awake in hope until You come again in glory. Amen.
