Day 24: The Final Advent
Reflection:
Advent does not end at the manger. It ends with the cry, “Come, Lord Jesus!” This is the true cry of Advent. The Bible ends with this very promise: “Look, I am coming soon!” And this is both an invitation and a warning.
The question is, do we actually long for His return? Do we hunger and thirst for the living God? Jesus says, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied” (Matthew 5:6). Our spiritual hunger reveals what we truly desire. The danger is that our appetites may be dulled by distraction, comfort, or sin, leaving us less eager for His presence. But during advent, we remind ourselves of the preparation that is necessary.
Advent reminds us that just as Israel waited for the Messiah to come, we too are a waiting people—called to long for Christ’s return. The manger points us to the cross, the cross to the empty tomb, and the empty tomb to the promise of His coming again. This is the full story of Advent.
As we come near the end of this season, let us not settle for shallow satisfactions. Let us cultivate a deeper hunger and thirst for the presence of Christ, knowing that He alone can fill us. As we wait, may we join the Church across the centuries in her final prayer: “Come, Lord Jesus!”
