Day 8: Let us be a Fragrance of Gratitude

When we thank God, tremendous things happen. Thanking Him reveals our heart. It shows humility and love for what the Lord has given us, and even for what we haven't received or need to let go of. Gratitude is letting go of self and appreciating God's generous heart. Gratitude must be genuine, sincere, and it must flow from within us, even in the simple things of life. Being grateful is a channel through which the fragrance of Christ can flow within us. When we study God's Word, we find so many truths, and one of these is that God has given us everything! Absolutely everything! How can we not appreciate His care and love?

Friend, this is the last devotional in this series, and I wanted to end with the topic of gratitude because I personally believe it's important to recognize that it's God's will for our lives that others see Jesus reflected in us. As daughters of God, we must fix our eyes on Him and not on our circumstances or emotions. He wants us to be the aroma of Christ! And it is through spending time at His feet, reading His Word, submitting our hearts, and seeking in prayer each day the fullness of His presence that we find peace, that love flows, that forgiveness flows, that generosity is awakened in us, and that obedience sprouts. That we live lives of genuine worship and that the serious, real, selfless gratitude that gives off the aroma of Christ within us sprouts.

Beloved, regardless of the circumstances, being grateful moves God's hand in our favor. We want our children to remember us as a mother who was genuine in her walk with God. As a virtuous woman. And maybe we don't feel close to being that, but God wants to spread virtue in you and me today. He just wants us to touch the hem of His garment like the woman mentioned in the Bible, who reached out to receive a touch from the Master. Overwhelmed by the pressure of society, she did the unpredictable, the unexpected, she made her way through the multitude of circumstances, and received a burst of virtue in her life from the very Son of God. And she was healed at that very moment.

My friend, this is the God we serve, full of love, grace, and mercy. We don't have to perform grand rituals and sacrifices. Jesus gave everything on the cross. This is beautiful, a great privilege, a blessing, and a great responsibility.

Let's pray. Dear father, I want to thank you for this. A devotional of days that we were able to be together, learning that our circumstances will never define who we are. It is the blood of Jesus, that cleans us, your Holy Spirit that flows through our souls, through our minds, through your beautiful word that shapes us and shows us how to love, how to forgive, how to give, and how to obey. Thank you Lord. We are overwhelmed by your presence. We are so blessed we cannot ask for more. We have everything. We have your love, your grace and your mercy. Lord, I thank you. I thank you, Lord, because we don't deserve this, but you have decided to bless us with your love and to use us as instruments, vessels of your love so people can receive the aroma of Christ through our emotions, through our attitudes, through the way we live, the way we react, through our faith and through our love. Thank you. In these moments, you convict our hearts to say, do we want to be the aroma of death, or do we want to be a aroma of life, and we choose life. Lord, we choose you in the name of Jesus. Amen.
