Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 53 OF 365

By which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises (2 Peter 1:4 NKJV).

Are you standing upon the promises of God?

For just a moment, imagine that you are one of the Disciples with Jesus during the events from Mark 4!

After a long day of ministry, as evening approaches, He calls you with eight powerful words, "Let us cross over to the other side" (Mark 4:35 NKJV). These words, laden with divine assurance, should have been enough to cement the certainty of reaching your destination.

Yet, as you set sail on the Sea of Galilee, a great windstorm descends upon you. Picture the chaos—waves crashing, winds howling, and the boat tossed like a mere twig on the water. You, a seasoned fisherman, are gripped with fear as water fills your boat.

Now, here's the twist: Jesus, your teacher and Lord, is in the stern, sound asleep on a pillow. Yes, you heard it right—amidst the raging storm, Jesus is peacefully asleep. Upon waking, He calmly rebukes the storm and corrects you for your lack of faith.

Now step back into your own shoes. Why does this historical event matter? Because it's not just about a storm on the Sea of Galilee—it's a narrative that echoes through time, challenging us to ponder our response in the storms of life.

Today, you might go through a storm, but hopefully, you will be a disciple that clings to the promises of God!

Employment Point: Cling to the promises of God.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
