Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year TwoSample

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you (James 4:8 NKJV).
Do you keep pursuing Jesus with passion, despite roadblocks?
Consider the men we encounter in today’s passage who dedicated time and effort to pursue the Lord. Mark recounts a remarkable event where four friends, determined to bring their paralyzed companion to Jesus, faced a literal roadblock—the crowded house.
Undeterred by this obstacle, these friends demonstrated extraordinary faith. In a bold move, they decided to peel back the roof of the house and lower their paralyzed friend down to Jesus (Mark 2:2). Picture the scene—their persistence, their belief in Jesus' healing power, and their courage to take unconventional measures.
This compelling narrative resonates with the essence of Hebrews 11:6, underscoring that faith is the key to pleasing God. These friends diligently sought Jesus, unwaveringly convinced of His ability to reward their efforts. The term "diligently" implies a fervent and intense pursuit—a steadfast commitment to seek Him.
Their story prompts us to reflect: Are we diligently pursuing Jesus with that same intensity? Are we prepared to overcome obstacles and take bold steps in faith to draw near to Him? I hope you pattern your life after the example these four men set by pursuing Jesus, no matter the cost!
Employment Point: Diligently pursue Jesus by faith, and you will be rewarded for your effort.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
