Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 51 OF 365

The soul who sins shall die (Ezekiel 18:20 NKJV).

Are you, perhaps unknowingly, flirting with death by disobeying God's word?

Today’s reading today takes us to Numbers 4, where God imparts fundamental commands to His people. One specific directive is crystal clear: avoid any contact with the sacred ark to prevent dire consequences. Now, let's fast forward to the time of Uzzah, a Kohathite strictly trained never to touch the ark of God. Tragically, as revealed in 2 Samuel 6:7, Uzzah defied this command, leading to the swift and severe judgment of God. His disobedience cost him his life.

Now, let's rewind to the Garden of Eden. Here, the Lord's command was also clear. He told Adam not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, stating that disobedience would inevitably result in death. Adam's transgression unleashed sin, suffering, and death upon all of humanity—a reality from which no one can escape.

Whether contemplating Adam in the pristine garden or reflecting on Uzzah beside the sacred ark, their stories carry profound lessons. Today, as we study into God's word, let's unravel the consequences of sin and glean insights to avoid the perilous dance with death.

Employment Point: Stay away from death’s door by honoring God’s Word.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
