Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 17 OF 365

Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy (Psalm 126:5 NKJV).

Why did Jesus begin speaking parables to the people?

Jesus began speaking in parables “on the same day” (Matthew 13:1 NKJV) that the scribes and the Pharisees accused Jesus of casting out demons by the power of Satan (Matthew 12:22–32). Essentially, the nation started to reject Jesus, and He spoke in parables to reveal truth to His followers and conceal the truth from those who rejected Him (Matthew 13:11- 13). He was still spreading the seed of the Word, but you could tell at that point that the transition had taken place. You could see that he came into his own, and his own received him not. Let’s keep in mind that even in times of rejection, our mission is to spread the seed of God’s Word just as our Lord proclaimed the message of the gospel prolifically.

Employment Point: Spread the seed of God’s Word, trusting Him with the results.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
