Finding the Words

DAY 11 OF 30

Dear Lord Jesus,

We thank You for the clear direction You have given us regarding prayer and sin. In Your model prayer, You taught us to ask our Heavenly Father for forgiveness for the sins we have committed. So today we ask our Heavenly Father for forgiveness for the ways that we have disobeyed and dishonored Him in our thoughts, words, or deeds. We all have fallen short in many ways from Your glorious standard. This has led to disastrous consequences, the chief of which has been the offense it is against You, our holy God. We confess our sin to the Father now and ask for forgiveness for this sin on the basis of His grace and Your sacrificial death, dear Jesus.

In teaching us to pray, though, You also have called us to not only ask for forgiveness but also to pray that we would be forgiving to those who have sinned against us. Lord Jesus, may we be a forgiving people to those who have wronged us in some way.

And Lord, in teaching us to pray, You also call us to pray for deliverance from temptation and the efforts of the evil one. You, Lord Jesus, are greater than the spirit of this world and our sinful desires. May You lead us away from temptation and to the green pastures of the life You have created us for. We know that the evil one is like a roaring lion looking for one of Your followers to devour. Therefore, we pray for Your protection from the schemes of the evil one in the days ahead.

Lord Jesus, thank You for Your graciousness toward us. Thank You that You hear our prayers and deal kindly with us regarding our sin as we trust in You.

In Your forgiving name we pray - AMEN

About this Plan

Finding the Words

Ask many Christians about their prayer life, and they will admit their struggle to find the words to pray. For thousands of years, liturgies have helped believers articulate words in their communication with God. This collection of 30 prayers (and the Scripture behind them) is designed to improve our prayer lives as we allow God's Word to populate our words in prayer.
