Cling to the Power of Prayer and Community
When decisions or circumstances are staring us in the face, where do we turn for answers? Oftentimes, emotions cloud our thinking, and we may feel pressured to please others or seek advice from those who may not guide us well. This is why community matters, especially in hard times.
We see two stark contrasts in the way Esther reached out to her community and the way that Haman interacted with his. Before taking action in a critical moment, Esther called her people to fast and pray. Though her childhood may have been challenging, she was raised by a man who loved God and taught her to follow Him. Then, when it mattered, she stood on those foundational principles, reached out to her faith-based community, and linked arms with them in the battle at hand. What wisdom she portrayed!
On the contrary, Haman sought out those who would affirm his anger and allow him to complain, sulk, seek vengeance, elevate himself, and tear others down. So, looking at these two different people in how they faced hard times, we are reminded to consider carefully whom we share our struggles with and seek guidance from.
In our busy lives, it’s also easy to carry burdens alone or to want to wallow in self-pity. A sweet friend's laughter at a coffee shop can feel like a lifeline. A kind but firm hand from a wise mentor can bring the nudge we need to move forward. When we gather in prayer, we share strength and support that brings us closer to God and each other.
You are not alone. Find your people – those who will do battle for good with you.
Reflection
- When was the last time you felt alone in a battle? Talk to God about it. Ask Him to show you people whom you can turn to and trust to point you to Him.
- Who are you thankful for in your past who helped build a foundation of faith? Take time to write down how you have seen the goodness of God through these people, and take a moment to thank them.
- How can you cultivate a community of support and prayer in your life and also be an encouragement to others to do the same? Commit to the Lord to find these people and keep Jesus as the center of your lives.
About this Plan

Life can leave us feeling overwhelmed, but the Bible teaches that God is before us—nothing surprises Him. Dwelling in His purpose gives us strength, courage, and stability amid life’s storms. How do we do that, though, when choices land us in vortex situations? In this 5-day plan for women, rooted in Esther’s story, we’ll explore how to rely on the Solid Rock, so when whirlwinds come, we are ready.
