Day 10: Life: Zoe, The Life that Leads to More

As we’ve explored, zoe means life, the kind of life we are created for, meant for, and the life God gives us through Christ. The Gospel of John speaks often—over 30 times—about zoe, the Greek word for the kind of life that flows from God and with God. This isn’t just biological existence (bios); it’s a higher, deeper, more meaningful life—a life of connection, purpose, intimacy, and love. It’s the life we were created for.

Look at how John describes it:

• John 1:4 – In him was life (zoe), and that life was the light of all mankind.
• John 3:16 – Whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life (zoe).
• John 5:24 – ...has crossed over from death to life (zoe).
• John 5:39-40 – ...yet you refuse to come to me to have life (zoe).
• John 10:10 – I have come that they may have life (zoe), and have it to the full.
• John 17:3 – Now this is eternal life (zoe): that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

This is the offer of the Gospel—not just entrance into heaven or escaping hell, but Life. A Life with God. Life from God. A Life that is intended to be abundant and full.

Why? Because we were made from the life of God and for life with the Trinity. The Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—has existed forever in a divine dance of perfect union, joy, and love. A romance within their relationship is the romance they extend to us. Out of that Trinity love, they created us—not to be servants, but sons and daughters invited into the very life and love they share.

Zoe and love are inseparable. We are never more fully alive than when we are being loved or loving others. To live is to love. And to be loved—truly, deeply, intimately—is to be alive.

But this life and love are fiercely opposed.

Satan and his network of darkness, the enemy of your soul, does not want you to discover the fullness of zoe. Satan, and the fallen angels (foul spirits), our enemy, as well as our false self, and this fallen world, together they are our enemy, and they will do anything to keep you from being loved, from living free, from knowing your authority as a son or daughter of the King. He fears you, what you might become–a heart fully alive.

You may know intellectually, theologically, that “God loves you,” but do you feel it? Hear it? Experience it?

That’s the hope of the next 10 days.

This devotional is more than a study—it’s an invitation. A come and see, come and taste explorative journey toward experiencing the love of God, not just mere academics but an encounter in the field of life, your life. Through Scripture, stories, illustrations, and opportunity to reflect, as well as the questions to ponder, you’ll be invited to notice, see, and hear where God is loving you, speaking to you, and inviting you to Life.

Because zoe isn’t just a concept or a way. It’s much, much, more; zoe is a Person, Jesus. He said it himself, He is the way, the truth, and the life. And He wants you… you fully alive.

As you reflect on all this with God today, consider asking Him:

Jesus, how has the kingdom of darkness been working, moving in my life, to keep me from having zoe?

Holy Spirit, thank you for life in the Kingdom of the Lord Jesus. Would you reveal to my heart the benefits, privileges, and responsibilities of being a Kingdom Man or Woman?

Father, is there one phrase or sentence that feels like it’s just for me today? Would You help me hear it clearly and understand why it matters?
