Love It! 30 Days of Inspiration in Psalm 119Sample

Day 3 Psalm 119:17-24 Comfort Through Trials
Today’s section of verses falls under the heading of the third letter of the Hebrew alphabet: “Gimel.” This represents the author’s reliance on God’s Word amidst life’s difficulties. This section appeals to God’s goodness and wonderful instruction to lead us through the trials of life.
The psalmist is asking God for a revival and comfort through trials (Psalm 119:17) He pleads with God to deal with him by His good heart and deep love. He cries out to the Lord, claiming he wants to be near God’s heart. He asks the Lord to deal with him bountifully and abundantly. And to give him good things, like the Lord’s grace, mercy, goodness, and kindness.
The psalmist asks for God to enable him to live and keep God’s Word. He asks for God to open his eyes to the wondrous things within God’s law. He prays for deliverance from reproach and contempt, highlighting his desire to be protected from those who slander him.
It’s normal to ask, “Where’s God in the middle of trials?” The author shows it’s good to be honest with God. If you are shunned, accused, betrayed, or have people plotting against you, there is pain and heartache. But hold on, these kinds of heart-wrenching trials also give God the opportunity to begin a spiritual awakening in your heart that is cultivated by God’s goodness and mercy.
It's also easy to get lost during trials, thinking that God doesn’t care or allow the pain of the hardship to cripple us, keeping us far from God. Most of us resist instruction and correction and try to go our own way.
God can come into the deepest part of your trial and swoop in to breathe life into your hurts, sorrows, worries, and pain. God’s instructions give wisdom, truth, and grace to keep you steady as you cling to Him. Therefore, your focus will be lifted from your circumstances and shifted upward, allowing you to avoid the paths that lead to destruction.
Verse 24, “Your laws please me; they give me wise advice.” God’s laws were given to free us to be all He wants us to be. He has good things in store for us.
Question: How can you shift from duty to delight in God’s Word?
Prayer: God help me delight in your wisdom and guidance. Be near me now. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
