Love It! 30 Days of Inspiration in Psalm 119

DAY 5 OF 30

Day 5 Psalm 119:33-40 Teach Me Your Ways

The next section of Psalm 119 is titled, “He.” The fifth letter, "He," (also spelled "Hei" or "Hay") signifies the concept of "ventilation" or "breathing room." In the context of Psalm 119, "He" represents how God's law, His statutes, and His Word provide perspective, new opportunities, and understanding, offering a path to a more fulfilling life.

Purposely aligning with God’s Word is vital for any believer. To be led by Christ, we must first surrender our life to His lordship and authority. Then we must not focus on what others are doing or aren’t doing. Intentionally positioning yourself under God’s direct leadership is the only way to know you are in the right place to receive His guidance in every aspect of your life.

When I picture myself in God’s classroom, with Him as the Teacher, it shifts my attitude about being a student. No longer do I see myself as the child always in trouble, a shadow from my past, but as one eager to listen closely to every word He speaks. I want to receive His instruction with an open heart, jot down the lessons that matter most, and prepare myself to obey and learn.

Psalm 119:36-37, “Give me an eagerness for your laws rather than a love for money! Turn my eyes from worthless things and give me life through your word.” (some manuscripts read “in your ways.”)

This is changing my outlook on learning, considering it as a precious commodity and something of great value. In today’s world, people most often covet financial gain. Money represents power, influence, and success. For many people, money is a god. They think about little else. True, money can buy certain comforts and offer some security. But far more valuable than wealth is obedience to God, because it is a heavenly treasure rather than an earthly one (Luke 12:33-34).

We should do what God wants, regardless of the financial implications. Make the writer’s prayer your own, asking God to turn your heart eagerly toward His laws and not toward making money; it’s in your own best interest in the long run.

Question: What one area of your life needs God’s instruction most?

Prayer: God, turn my earnest heart toward Your laws and let me learn from You. Teach me your ways so that I may obey You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
