30 Days With the Psalms

DAY 11 OF 30

God sees and knows

“The LORD is in His holy temple; the LORD's throne is in heaven; His eyes see, His eyelids test the children of man” (Psalm 11:4 ESV).

God is a spirit, and He is not bound to any particular place. Sometimes the Bible speaks in imagery about God as a King who sits on a throne, and His palace is called “heaven”. Heaven is the spiritual realm where God lives. That seems far away from our natural world. But the Lord is not a distant God. He sees what is happening on earth and He is actively involved.

This gives the psalmist hope in an otherwise desperate situation. He complains that “the wicked bend the bow; they have fitted their arrow to the string to shoot in the dark at the upright in heart. (…) What can the righteous do?” (Psalm 11:2-3 ESV).

The only source of hope is that God sees and knows. Although His throne is “in heaven”, He will judge the wicked people who threaten the righteous. “Let Him rain coals on the wicked; fire and sulfur and a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup” (Psalm 11:6 ESV).

Are you aware that God intervenes for the righteous? Can you mention some examples?
